This is a story based on my oncle’s testimony about his childhood during the Cambodian civil war.
In 1975, the Khmers Rouge army took power and established a highly autocratic and repressive regime. They murdered hundreds of thousands of their perceived political opponents. Ultimately, the Cambodian genocide led to the deaths of 1.5 to 2 million people, around 25% of Cambodia’s population.
To espace the Khmer Rouge, part of my family walked during 6 months across Cambodia to reach Vietnam before immigrating in France. My uncle generously shared with me his story ; this is part of his testimony.
